BAB: Kari White of Mayor B!

Kari White, we can’t even begin to describe how excited we are to have you featured as our Bowed Arrows Babe of the month! Jenna has known Kari for over 10 years and when we first learned about her project, Mayor B, we just couldn’t get enough.
BA: Mayor B. is essentially insanely creative and adorable pictures of your French Bulldog, so what was the inspiration behind it? Did you always have plans of selling the artwork or did it start as fun?

KW: It started as a fun project, I had a camera and started taking photos of my dog Rambo. I gave them out as presents but then people started to take notice and want them for their homes. The demand grew so I made large prints with custom frames and resin and began to sell them here in Los Angeles. Obviously there was a lot of trial and error, but I learned the craft from my circle of artistic friends.

From there I started Mayor B. Not just as a company, but more an interpretation of my dogs personality. He’s a boss, and I felt like when it came to lifestyle products he deserved so much more than anything I could buy. I started making him custom leather and brass collars, modified vintage pieces, and handmade leather harnesses. People started to take notice and I realized that I wasn’t alone in thinking my dog was more than just a pet.

BA: We totally understand that! We are huge dog lovers here at Bowed Arrows. Tell us more about your charming pup!

KW: I got Rambo as a puppy, he’s my Christmas baby. I was always into photography and when Rambo was a puppy I tried dressing him up just to see what would happen. He would sit there with an air of confidence (that can easily be mistaken for arrogance). He was so human like, he looked good and he knew it…ha! Pet photography can be so campy, and I was hoping to make photos that would put you in a good mood without being silly. I know I’m not the only one who sees a picture of their pet and smiles and I wanted to share that with those around me.

BA: What does a day in the life of Kari White and Mayor B. entail?

KW: I work in an industrial space in downtown owned by my friends at Croft House. They design and build modern furniture here in LA and have been extremely helpful with Mayor B. We have a shared vision of working with skilled craftsmen to make quality goods. Its an inspiring environment because of the industrial aesthetic. There’s something about being near band saws and drill presses that fits so well with Mayor B.

BA: What’s your favorite Mayor B. shot?

KW: My favorite piece is the “Prince of Pop” inspired by Warhol.  For some reason it makes me question my sanity hahahaha!

BA: What’s next for you and Mayor B?

KW: Everything we have been creating is all for the love of our pets. Now we are working on spreading the message and building a community of like minded friends. We have retail partnerships here in Los Angeles that are fantastic and have been providing us with support and encouragement and plan on expanding east to NYC and Minneapolis in the future. New products like dog bowls, food storage, collars and leashes are around the corner. Overall I love creating Mayor B, it makes me happy and inspired and I love being able to share that with others.

BA: What did you want to be when you grew up?

KW: I always wanted to have my own cooking show like Paula Dean & The Barefoot Contessa…. I used to make my brothers film me making chicken and lasagna and stuff…I called it ”Kooking with Kari”  hahaha!

(We have tried a few of the recipes…delicious!)

BA: What does confidence mean to you and how do you achieve it?

KW: I think confidence obviously comes from owning your strengths, but also being able to recognize your weaknesses and having the guts to try and strengthen them.

BA: Any tips to supplement a healthy lifestyle for the other busy girls of the world?

KW: I’m really into nutrition and good fats…I think making time to eat healthy is key when you’re busy and stressed out. What you put in your body reflects your mood and your energy, and I think its all about staying consistent and as close to the ground as possible, so staying away from a lot of sugar and processed crap.  I also swear by brain foods like avocados and fish oil!

BA: What’s your favorite way to relax?

KW: Definitely reading…I’m a total sci-fi / fantasy book nerd so its my escape.

BA: And how about pumping yourself up?

KW: I think playing soccer, surfing, and physical activities are when I do most of my thinking. I have a ton of energy so sometimes I need to just go on a hike or kick the ball around with my friends and it really motivates me with work. My biggest inspiration comes when I make time to go antique shopping.

mayorb 3

BA: Something you are totally obsessed with right now?

KW: Metal work. I learned how to weld from one of my friends and completely out of control with it. Its like an extreme version of a glue gun hahaha

BA: I’m sure we have some curious readers, so how can they get Mayor B. artwork and clothing?

KW: Everything is up on my site I also love special projects with my art, so feel free to email me.

BAB: Kelly Robyn of Miss With-It!

Okay, Babes! If you have not been following/shopping Miss With-It you are Miss-ing out! Tees, Pillows and sassy make-up pouches are just the beginning. The merch is awesome but the woman behind it all is absolutely fabulous! We are so excited to introduce you to Kelly, the founder of Miss With-It!

BA: How did you get into fashion?

KR: I have a background in fashion photography. After I returned from shooting fashion photography in Paris, I was eager to continue on a creative path to learn more about design. I think my skills and years of experience in fashion photography really helped sharpen my eye for design. While I was in design school, I continued directing, and shooting my own fashion editorial spreads for fun and for submissions. I also created my own fashion magazine project where I managed the roles as editor, photographer and layout designer. Later on that year, my magazine won the Gold Award for Graphis International New Talent Awards which was exciting! Then, after I graduated from design school I worked at a design studio in London, which is such a major fashion capital. London will always be my favorite fashion city! After working in London I went on to direct and photograph some fashion shoots in Berlin, which had a totally different fashion aesthetic than London. I think every city I’ve been to has inspired my style sense in different ways. I’m back in Los Angeles now, and I find this city to be just as inspiring as the others. LA has so many cool new and old things to discover, it’s really inspired my brand. To me, LA is like wearing an old dress that you’ve worn 100 times, but you just discovered this old dress has cool little pockets that you never knew were there before.

BA: What were you doing before you started your own company?

KR: After I graduated from Design school I ditched everything I owned (including my car), I left my family + friends behind in California in order to live out my dream of living + working in London. I had always wanted to live in London. It’s such a creative, fashion forward, BRILLIANT city, that it has always captivated me in ways nowhere else could. I wanted to feel a part of something bigger. I wanted to be in a place where I could be constantly inspired with every turn of my head. I absolutely LOVED London, and everyday was like living the dream. I was so inspired daily, just like I had always hoped. But, after some time, it didn’t work out in London for me because of complicated UK visa restrictions, so I came back to the States. I felt so lost + ashamed that my dream didn’t work out for the long term. I would constantly beat myself up, and I had many identity crisis freak outs. It was a huge process to rebuild & reinvent myself again. Then one day I realized, this IS my reality so I better learn to like it, or even love it.

BA: When did you get the idea for Miss With-It?

KR: I was sick in bed one day + I wanted to feel somewhat productive, so I just started coming up with funny sayings and designing them on pillows to entertain myself and give myself a little chuckle, haha. I shared them on social media for my friends to see, and everything really just picked up from there. From the positive response I received, I continued designing more, and through this Miss With-it was born. While I was in the midst of my depression, I focused all of my energy on starting up this new business. It brought me so much joy when my audience thought my designs were funny and shared them with their friends. I love making people laugh, and I absolutely love it when my customers tag me in a photo on social media of how they are enjoying their new goodies. Without them even realizing it, the support of my engaged customers all over the globe managed to pull me out of my daily pity parties haha. I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone for their support of Miss With-it.

BA: Have you always been into fashion and home decor or was it a twist of fate?

KR: Yes, very much so. I’m an inspired person. I am the product of my environment(s).

BA: Describe your vision for yourself and Miss With-It.

KR: Well, I’ve always been a multi-passionate, super-creative, with massive amounts of incurable ADD. There are so many things that make my heart sing! Design, photography, fashion, travel, color, beautiful typography, laughing… I’d love to just spend the rest of my life laughing haha. Being a lover of so many beauties, I can’t imagine giving any of them up to stick to just ONE thing, and be great at that ONE thing. You know what I mean? With Miss With-it my intention is to combine all of my loves into one vivacious environment in order to spread a little sass, humor + individuality. Miss With-it is about creating a community of With-it Babes that also have a love for multiple interests, the beautiful things in life, and also witty personalities to boot!

BA: So what’s next for you?

KR: Just recently Miss With-it got a completely new makeover! I had so much fun designing the new line, and I’m really excited to bring in the new pouches! These are great for make-up, change, credit cards, and cute emergency items like bobbi pins and additional flair. They’re cute & handy. What could be better? I like to surprise people and keep popping up with new items and designs. So stay tuned for what’s next!

BA: What’s a memorable moment from your journey to becoming a business owner?

KR: The moment a major idea strikes is the most electric and energizing feeling. I’m a passionate person that thrives on new ideas. I hope to continuously carry these electric moments with me throughout my journey.

BA: What were some of the biggest hardships on your journey to where you are now? How did you overcome them?

KR: Oh, definitely overcoming the blues I felt when I came back to the States. My dreams felt like they had shattered into a million pieces. It was a huge lesson in resilience for me. I learned to just get back up, dust myself off, and reinvent myself again. I learned that all of life is a process and to trust that all the dots will connect some day, but you can’t see the dots looking forward, you can only see the dots connect when looking back. Living abroad definitely happened for a reason; I’m a lot tougher than I ever used to be. I pay no mind to any pettiness. The biggest lesson to take away from any disadvantage in life is that failure is a much more faithful teacher than immediate success. Trust me on that.

BA: Best tips for boosting self-confidence?

1. Never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Comparison is the thief of joy.

2. Watch your thoughts carefully. Train your brain to be positive.

3. Surround yourself with loving, supportive people. Strive to enhance + inspire other people’s lives too.

BA: Any advice for young girls?

KR: Absolutely. Your choices matter; even the seemingly small ones. So, live consciously. Create a vision for your life. What you think about you bring about. Dream build. Read books. Find someone that has a life that you want and figure out how they got it. Pick your role models wisely; find out what they did and do it.

BA: How do you motivate yourself or pump yourself up when you are feeling a little “bleh”?

KR: I’ve always loved punk rock, it really gets me going! So, when I’m feeling “bleh” or low energy, I’ll throw on some Bad Brains, Cramps, The Saints or Dead Kennedys, and just go nuts. Haha, it’s an instant cool fix.

BA: What’s your favorite way to wind-down and relax?

KR: I’m a pretty relaxed and mellow person generally. But, I like to light my Voluspa candle in French Cade Lavender + drink some wine while watching New Girl (it’s the only show I watch). Oh, the simple things.

BA: If you could pick one song to describe yourself, what would it be?

KR: Nancy Sinatra “These boots are made for walkin’ “. My go-to song for Karaoke!

BA: Something you are totally obsessed with right now?

KR: I just moved to LA, so I’m obsessed with exploring new areas and finding new pockets that I never knew existed. I love taking walks around my neighborhood in West Hollywood, and people watching!

BA: Any health tips for busy women?

KR: Get at least 7 hours of sleep. Limit your sugar intake. Stay away from processed foods + fast food. Drink green tea everyday. Take probiotics for a healthy gut. Start your day with a protein packed smoothie, throw in a spoonful of coconut oil + apple cider vinegar for energy + to boost your metabolism. If you’re stressed, get outside and go for a walk, you’ll feel much better.

BA: What does empowering women mean to you?

KR: Instead of trying to compete with one another, I’d like to see us all succeed. It all starts with having a vision for your own life, and that can have an impact on the world.

BA: Best piece of advice you have ever received?

“Instead of striving for perfection, strive for excellence; it’s way more fun.” – Mama

“Always set your own standards, or someone else will, and they will set them low.” – Papa

So what exactly is a Bowed Arrow Babe?

We interrupt our normal programming to address something that we have been getting a lot of questions about…

What’s a Bowed Arrow Babe, or as we affectionally call it, a BAB?

Let’s rewind a little and explain why we started Bowed Arrows. Last year Jenna and Chantelly were talking about how they didn’t feel there was anywhere to go after high school to talk to anyone about normal life issues. There is no guidance counselor or Home Ec teacher to help you or tell you how to do things. Not everybody wants a therapist and not everyone was born with a predisposition to be a regular Martha Stewart.

Jenna began writing a blog called Twenty Something and Lovelis that was an honest look into life in your twenties and how it’s not always all it’s cracked up to be. College isn’t for everyone. Jobs are hard to find. Love is even harder to find (or at least REAL love). Sometimes friendships end. Sometimes you end up completely changing paths because you have been chasing the wrong dream. Shit happens and it can make life, especially young adult life, hard to navigate.

So after a few years of expressing her deepest fears and discoveries to the world, Jenna decided she wanted a place for women of all ages to come and feel accepted and encouraged. When Chantelly heard the idea, she was immediately on board and Bowed Arrows was born.

About the name…

Life takes you through a lot of loops and turns. Your path is rarely straight. You may aim your arrow one place and have it end up in a completely different place, but that is okay. Life is all about the journey and your arrow does not have to point straight in order to get yourself where you need to be. Trust in life. Trust in God. Trust in yourself.

So, what’s a Bowed Arrow Babe?

A few of our favorite BABs that helped us launch the blog!

A BAB is a woman who is owning her life. Someone who is comfortable in her own skin, confident, genuine, NICE (HUGE emphasis on nice, caring, compassionate, etc. etc. etc.). BABs lift each other up, encourage one another and want good things to happen to other people. Our babes are not “mean girls” and we are fighting to end girl-on-girl crime. We need to support & love one another and ourselves.

Bowed Arrow Babes want to make a difference. They let their light shine wherever they go. They follow their dreams. They make things happen for themselves. They start a business. They see the world. They make art. They cure cancer. They change the world, one beautiful soul at a time.

Are you a Bowed Arrow Babe? Do you surround yourself with other Bowed Arrow Babes? Tell us more! Leave comments and let us know how you are letting your inner-BAB shine!

We love you, Babes!

Let your best self shine.

Bowed Arrow Babe: Kiersten Rich of The Blonde Abroad!

It’s our favorite day of the week, babes! Woman Crush Wednesday! We are thrilled to be talking with Kiersten Rich of The Blonde Abroad today!  Many of you may already be familiar with Kiersten, but for those of you who are just getting to know her, she is an award-winning travel and fashion blogger. Kiersten has been featured on many Top Travel Blog Lists and Top Instagram Account Lists plus so much more. Kiersten, Jenna and Chantelly all lived in the same city and never crossed paths but it just seemed like a perfect fit to feature someone so close to home! Read on to see why we love Kiersten and her blog so much!

Kiersten! We are thrilled to have you be our featured Bowed Arrow Babe this week. So, let’s talk Blondes…namely The Blonde Abroad!

BA: What is The Blonde Abroad ?

Kiersten Rich: The Blonde Abroad is an award-winning solo female travel & lifestyle blog featuring travel tips, fashion, festivals and photography from around the world.

BA: What was your inspiration for wanting to start your own Blog and website?

Kiersten Rich: I initially began writing a blog for hobby. I always loved storytelling and writing and it was a great way to share my travel experiences with friends and family.

BA: Your trips aren’t always for leisure, tell us about some of the philanthropic work you have done in other countries.

Kiersten Rich: Volunteering abroad has been the most rewarding travel experience for me. My first philanthropic trip was with a water quality project in Honduras, but since then I’ve volunteered with and helped raise money for organizations around the world.

I was a volunteer for Team USA in the 2010 Paralympic Games in London and have also helped raise money for organizations like Biblioworks in Bolivia and Peruvian Hearts in Peru, to name a few.

BA: You left a career in corporate finance, but you still do consulting through The Blonde Abroad, tell us about that!

Kiersten Rich: One of my skills, regardless of career, has always been branding and business development. One of the key ways I have turned my own brand into a business is through sharing my expertise and helping businesses with social media, content creation and lifestyle marketing. I also offer blog mentorship where I work 1-on-1 with bloggers of all skill levels on everything from website design to social media strategy.

BA: What does a day in the life of Kiersten Rich entail?

Kiersten Rich: Admittedly, it’s not as glamorous as it may seem on social media. The Blonde Abroad requires a lot of work and I have an entire team that helps ensure everything runs smoothly. I typically get through my emails first and tie in with my Community Manager to discuss the goals and deliverables of projects, campaigns and content.

When I’m not traveling, I typically spend about 10-12 hours a day working on everything from graphic design to writing. A lot of my time is spent managing ongoing projects and negotiating future partnerships and campaigns.

When I am traveling, I try my best to disconnect and be present so that I can still enjoy my experience and to better offer authentic advice when it comes time to vlog or blog about it. And of course, a lot of my time is spent behind and in front of my camera lens developing content and shooting travel photography.

BA: Favorite place you have traveled?

Kiersten Rich: My recent trip to Iceland has definitely topped the charts. With everything from the Blue Lagoon to glacier trekking, it was definitely one of the most magical destinations I’ve ever been to.

BA: What’s next for you and The Blonde Abroad?

Kiersten Rich: I just returned from the Sundance Film Festival and, I haven’t announced it yet, but I’m about to embark on a big All-American road trip through the south. I’m going to be visiting some major cities for the first time, including Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans and meeting up with readers along the way!

(Kiersten is currently on her All-American Road Trip and you can check her itinerary to see if she is coming to your town here!)

BA: What’s a memorable moment from your journey?

Kiersten Rich: I have to say most of what I do as a travel blogger is memorable, but the travel community is what truly touches my heart. I get countless email each day, but I often hear from women that tell me I was their inspiration for their first solo trip. I also hear from college students a lot that tell me my advice gave them the confidence to study abroad.

Knowing that my business and my passion inspire others and motivate them to live a life they love is the ultimate reward.

BA: What were your biggest hardships on your journey to where you are now? How did you overcome them?

Kiersten Rich: Pursuing a blog as a business has to be one of the biggest emotional roller coasters. I think most entrepreneurs deal with self-doubt. The high risk of going all in on something that isn’t guaranteed is incredibly scary.

I still deal with some of the same lows that I had in the beginning of my blogging career, but I would say that I now translate that doubt and fear into motivation and determination which, in the end, has made me more successful.

Now for the fun questions!

BA: What did you want to be when you grew up?

Kiersten Rich: An actress!

BA: What does confidence mean to you and how do you achieve it?

Kiersten Rich: I think confidence comes in owning both your strengths and weaknesses. Confidence isn’t about always being the best at something or lying about the type of person you really are.

Our weaknesses make us human and when you love yourself regardless, you shine a little brighter.

BA: Any tips to supplement a healthy lifestyle for the other busy girls of the world?

Kiersten Rich: A good night’s sleep, lots of water and limit your sugar intake.

BA: What’s your favorite way to relax?

Kiersten Rich: I’m a big fan of day spas. A good book is also my favorite way to relax and clear my head.

BA: And how about pumping yourself up?

Kiersten Rich: All I need is a cup of coffee and I can take over the world.

BA: If you could describe yourself in a song, what would it be?

Kiersten Rich:Miles Away” by Years Around the Sun

BA: Something you are totally obsessed with right now?

Kiersten Rich: I recently discovered travel-friendly airbrush makeup and it’s been a total game changer for me. I’m obsessed.

BA: What does empowering women mean to you?

Kiersten Rich: Overcoming stereotypes, for starters. That’s a big part of what inspired the “Blonde” in my brand. What you look like does not define you.

It’s also about giving women the motivation and tools (whether it’s confidence, knowledge or education) to better themselves.

BA: If you could tell all women everywhere one thing, what would it be?

Kiersten Rich: You are capable and worthy of an amazing life and career. Having mentors and surrounding yourself with people that believe in you is essential, but you don’t need permission to live a life you love.

Be sure to check out Kiersten and follow her around the world on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter! Warning: You WILL get the travel bug!

Bowed Arrow Babe: Kelly Arthur

Welcome back, Babes! Today we are introducing you to the wonderful artist and friend that assisted in our photo shoot and helped design our logo! She is an amazing artist and one of the most adorable people we have ever met. From greeting cards to amazing paintings, this woman is rocking it and we can’t wait to see where her talent takes her. Here she is, our Bowed Arrow Babe of the week:

Kelly Arthur

BA: So, let’s jump in and talk about your art work. You are obviously creating our logo and we are super excited about that. When did your passion for art begin?

Kelly Arthur: Super young. I’ve made cards for my family since I can remember. I think first grade is the first time I thought “Ya, this is what I love to do”. We had an assignment to set up a “business” and mine was drawing Disney characters and selling them. I wanted to work for disney. That didn’t pan out… yet. Ha! And I’ve been doodling on everything ever since. I was caught a few times by teachers doing drawings of them in class, even in college.

BA: That’s awesome. So, it’s definitely not something new for you! You started a greeting card business recently, tell us more about that!

Kelly Arthur: I’ve been making custom greeting cards for people, mostly by word of mouth through family and friends as well as selling christmas cards and gift tags at different outlets as a side deal for years. Finally I decided to start an Etsy store. It’s in it’s early stages but I’m excited about it. I’ve had my website on the back burner for years so I’m hoping to get it synced with my Etsy shop here soon. I do everything from cards to huge acrylic paintings. I’ve had an art show and I have some paintings up at a wine bar in Long Beach and a couple other showings.

BA: Sounds like a lot of fun! Hopefully, we will be seeing your work with Disney soon:)
Which wine bar?

Kelly Arthur: That would be awesome! The District. It’s owned by the neatest couple who feature local artists.

BA: That’s great! You’ll have to send us some pictures so everyone can see your work!
How do you stay motivated and keep your creative juices flowing?

Kelly Arthur: I do have a Facebook page for it: Kelly Kathleen Art
I’m lucky to have creative friends, like our mutual friend Marissa. Having people around you who support you and have similar aspirations is huge. Even searching the internet and finding random things to draw or paint. I can walk around card stores like Paper Source and get ideas. I’m like a kid in a candy store. I have a sketchbook that I doodle in constantly.

BA: We totally agree! We can all help keep each other motivated now!

Kelly Arthur: I have some friends that will send me drawings or cards and say “you could so do this in a more creative way….do it” Ha!

BA: That’s rad! Encouraging friends are the best friends! And it’s nice to have someone to go to for new logo help too!

Kelly Arthur: Amen sister!

BA: Where do you hope to be in 5 years? 10 years?

Kelly Arthur: Gracious, that question. 5 years, I’d love to make a name for Kelly Kathleen ART or even some sort of collaboration, whether it be with a fellow artist or working for a company like Papyrus. I want to make art my sole income and maybe have a couple more art shows under my belt. 10 years? I would love to own an actual shop. A boutique, where local artists can sell and I can have my art up as well…That has coffee and champs. A spot people can come and be creative together. Those are my art aspirations anyway.

BA: Champs! You’re speaking our language!
We wiil hang out in your shop and drink champagne and admire art any day!

Kelly Arthur: Right? How fun does that sound? Marissa Aguilar and I have talked a lot about it.

BA: You two would have the cutest shop!

Kelly Arthur: I think so. She’s been making jewelry and screen prints. I think it would be so fun to work together!

BA: Totally! What does a perfect day look like to you?

Kelly Arthur: Oh man, I’m pretty easy. Brunch, beach cruisers and dog beach.

BA: Sounds perfect! Especially since brunch means champagne!

Kelly Arthur: I figured that went without saying! It isn’t brunch without champagne!

BA: Yep! Any advice for others who are interested in starting their own business?

Kelly Arthur: The more I talk to people who have started companies and those, like me, who are just starting out, tenacity is so important. We’ve all heard actors say “you just have to be ok with hearing ‘you’re not good enough’ and ‘no’ …starting a business can be very similar. Even if it’s you, yourself, being the doubter. I’ve been my own worst enemy. My advice is everyday keep at it. Make a list. Check those boxes off everyday. Even if it’s only one. My mom has suggested to me: “Accomplish something toward your goal everyday. Even if it’s something small.” I’m still working on taking that advice!

Marissa Aguilar, Kelly Arthur and your Bowed Arrows founders relaxing after a long day of work!
Marissa Aguilar, Kelly Arthur and your Bowed Arrows founders relaxing after a long day of work!

BA: And great advice it is! It’s hard to stay motivated when you get sidetracked or feel like you have doubters, but you just gonna keep on swimming. We know you loved art from an early age, but was there anything else you wanted to be when you grew up?

Kelly Arthur: And I’m easily sidetracked, so I need to take my own advice! When I was young and people asked me what I wanted to be when I grown up this was literally my answer “I want to either work for Disney, own a football team or be a race car driver.” My driving record shows that I’ve put a valiant effort into the racing career with no success, just a poor driving record. As far as owning a football team? Yeah, I’m a few dollars short and I know nothing about football. Except that I’m a fan of the activities involved while watching football: Drinking and eating and socializing. Ha! So art was my best bet.

BA: Some of our favorite things too! What does confidence mean to you and how do you achieve it?

Kelly Arthur: Confidence, to me, means being at peace with what God has blessed you with. Own it. Find joy in it. To surround yourself with people who remind you that you have a purpose, because doubting yourself is really exhausting. Believing doubts others may have in you is a waste of time. Confidence is liberating. Not gonna lie, everyday I struggle with confidence. I read those Pinterest quotes “She believed she could, so she did” and sometimes want to vomit, but there is some truth to them.

BA: Totally! Sometimes those quotes are a great reminder. We couldn’t agree more! Fake it until you become it!

Kelly Arthur: Word!

BA: Any tips to supplement a healthy lifestyle for the other busy girls of the world?

Kelly Arthur: Take the stairs! I just got a fitbit. We’ll see how that pans out. My grandmas told me the funniest saying growing up “get your liver jumping everyday.” So have Champagne for breakfast? I kid…kinda. But seriously, to keep moving. Working out all the time is hard, but taking a walk while on the phone instead of just sitting. Taking the stairs. Parking in the farther spot. Sounds like silly advice but it’s actually really good. Oh and drink more water! Less soda and sugary drinks. It’s just more sugar. Plus, your body and skin will thank you in the short term and long run!

BA: Yes, we are all about that! Small things add up over time! What’s your favorite way to relax?

Kelly Arthur: So cliche, but either a bath with a glass of wine or jacuzzi with a glass of wine. I don’t know what it is but it’s like my Xanax. Or sitting in my pjs watching Dateline. You’d think that would stress me out!

BA: (Laughter) Seriously! But at least you will know what to look out for in scary situations!

Kelly Arthur: Exactly! That’s my thought process anyway. Or I know what not to do if I ever become a criminal.

BA: (Laughter) Hopefully that never happens! And how about pumping yourself up?

Kelly Arthur: Good tunes! Seriously, music makes everything better!

BA: If you could describe yourself in a song, what would it be?

Kelly Arthur: A song I made up or an actual song? Or should that be obvious?

BA: Hell, if you’ve written a song about yourself we would love to hear it! But, an actual song will work!

Kelly Arthur: Ha! Well somewhere in between Video by India Arie and Gunpowder and Lead by Miranda Lambert. That was a tough question!

BA: Yes!!! We love a good kickass girl power anthem!
Something you are totally obsessed with right now?

Kelly Arthur: My friend got me The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s kit to make their Winter’s Dream latte at home. I’ve been making a lot of them. And as always my Bonne Bell Dr. Pepper chapstick. I can’t go anywhere without it.

BA: (Chantel) OMG I love that drink! (Jenna) Chapstick queen over here! I’ll have to try that one!

Kelly Arthur: Get the kit. You can make them with a quarter of the vanilla stuff so they aren’t so bad for you! And you’ll never need another chapstick.

BA: Oh good tip! We will def have to do that! What does empowering women mean to you?

Kelly Arthur: Loving on them! Not being afraid to compliment, even if you don’t know them. That little “You have great hair” to a woman you don’t know in the grocery aisle could go a long way. She could have been feeling poorly about something and that made her day. Compliment away! But don’t lie. Ha.

BA: Love that! Random compliments are the best! Ok, last one girlie!

If you could tell all women everywhere one thing, what would it be?

Kelly Arthur: You know, I hate cheesy but my favorite, Audrey Hepburn, said it best “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says ‘I’m possible'”.

BA: (Jenna) Oh, you know how much I love Audrey as well. Not cheesy at all. Quite perfect, actually. Thank you so much, Kelly. We really enjoyed this. Can’t wait to see the logos and collab on more things in the near future!

Happy Monday, Babes! We are absolutely thrilled to put up our first official post on the blog! What better way to kick off our Mantra Mondays blog posts than to talk about arrows! “An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you back with difficulties, it means it’s going to launch you into something great. So just focus, and keep aiming.” When we saw this mantra, we were so inspired.

When we decided to start a blog to encourage and empower women, we were discussing names and fell upon Bowed Arrows. A lot of people have asked us what the name means and why we chose it. Here’s our answer: The idea behind an arrow is that you aim it and it goes where you aim. In life though, your arrow sometimes gets sidetracked. We make plans and often times those plans fall apart. A bowed arrow does not have a straight path. A bowed arrow can be taken in many different directions and see things that a straight arrow would not. A bowed arrow will land exactly where it is supposed to, even if it was aimed somewhere else.

Enjoy the ride. When things get tough, just remember that you will land exactly where you are supposed to. It doesn’t always work out how you want and things are rarely perfect but life has a funny way of giving you exactly what you need. We hope that this blog and community of women will be somewhere that you can come and find encouragement and hope when life seems to be getting the best of you. You have friends here and we have plenty of hope and love to share. Follow your arrow, babes.
