BAB: Kari White of Mayor B!

Kari White, we can’t even begin to describe how excited we are to have you featured as our Bowed Arrows Babe of the month! Jenna has known Kari for over 10 years and when we first learned about her project, Mayor B, we just couldn’t get enough.
BA: Mayor B. is essentially insanely creative and adorable pictures of your French Bulldog, so what was the inspiration behind it? Did you always have plans of selling the artwork or did it start as fun?

KW: It started as a fun project, I had a camera and started taking photos of my dog Rambo. I gave them out as presents but then people started to take notice and want them for their homes. The demand grew so I made large prints with custom frames and resin and began to sell them here in Los Angeles. Obviously there was a lot of trial and error, but I learned the craft from my circle of artistic friends.

From there I started Mayor B. Not just as a company, but more an interpretation of my dogs personality. He’s a boss, and I felt like when it came to lifestyle products he deserved so much more than anything I could buy. I started making him custom leather and brass collars, modified vintage pieces, and handmade leather harnesses. People started to take notice and I realized that I wasn’t alone in thinking my dog was more than just a pet.

BA: We totally understand that! We are huge dog lovers here at Bowed Arrows. Tell us more about your charming pup!

KW: I got Rambo as a puppy, he’s my Christmas baby. I was always into photography and when Rambo was a puppy I tried dressing him up just to see what would happen. He would sit there with an air of confidence (that can easily be mistaken for arrogance). He was so human like, he looked good and he knew it…ha! Pet photography can be so campy, and I was hoping to make photos that would put you in a good mood without being silly. I know I’m not the only one who sees a picture of their pet and smiles and I wanted to share that with those around me.

BA: What does a day in the life of Kari White and Mayor B. entail?

KW: I work in an industrial space in downtown owned by my friends at Croft House. They design and build modern furniture here in LA and have been extremely helpful with Mayor B. We have a shared vision of working with skilled craftsmen to make quality goods. Its an inspiring environment because of the industrial aesthetic. There’s something about being near band saws and drill presses that fits so well with Mayor B.

BA: What’s your favorite Mayor B. shot?

KW: My favorite piece is the “Prince of Pop” inspired by Warhol.  For some reason it makes me question my sanity hahahaha!

BA: What’s next for you and Mayor B?

KW: Everything we have been creating is all for the love of our pets. Now we are working on spreading the message and building a community of like minded friends. We have retail partnerships here in Los Angeles that are fantastic and have been providing us with support and encouragement and plan on expanding east to NYC and Minneapolis in the future. New products like dog bowls, food storage, collars and leashes are around the corner. Overall I love creating Mayor B, it makes me happy and inspired and I love being able to share that with others.

BA: What did you want to be when you grew up?

KW: I always wanted to have my own cooking show like Paula Dean & The Barefoot Contessa…. I used to make my brothers film me making chicken and lasagna and stuff…I called it ”Kooking with Kari”  hahaha!

(We have tried a few of the recipes…delicious!)

BA: What does confidence mean to you and how do you achieve it?

KW: I think confidence obviously comes from owning your strengths, but also being able to recognize your weaknesses and having the guts to try and strengthen them.

FullSizeRender (57)

BA: Any tips to supplement a healthy lifestyle for the other busy girls of the world?

KW: I’m really into nutrition and good fats…I think making time to eat healthy is key when you’re busy and stressed out. What you put in your body reflects your mood and your energy, and I think its all about staying consistent and as close to the ground as possible, so staying away from a lot of sugar and processed crap.  I also swear by brain foods like avocados and fish oil!

BA: What’s your favorite way to relax?

KW: Definitely reading…I’m a total sci-fi / fantasy book nerd so its my escape.

BA: And how about pumping yourself up?

KW: I think playing soccer, surfing, and physical activities are when I do most of my thinking. I have a ton of energy so sometimes I need to just go on a hike or kick the ball around with my friends and it really motivates me with work. My biggest inspiration comes when I make time to go antique shopping.

mayorb 3

BA: Something you are totally obsessed with right now?

KW: Metal work. I learned how to weld from one of my friends and completely out of control with it. Its like an extreme version of a glue gun hahaha

BA: I’m sure we have some curious readers, so how can they get Mayor B. artwork and clothing?

KW: Everything is up on my site I also love special projects with my art, so feel free to email me.

BABe: Parker of Ruff Ties

BABes! We are SO excited to introduce you to Parker of Ruff Ties. This company makes the cutest ties for pups and we just can’t resist. Check out her story and go buy some ties!

P: Ruff’s Up!

Jen Parker here, AKA Parker.  Creator of Ruff Ties.  I am passionate about exploring the whole planet encountering Puppies, Fashion & Human Interaction. I am Child of God who is ruled by the Sun and driven by the heart of a Lion.  I attend Mariners Church and listen to weekly Books on Tape, whether its Ekhart Tolle, Anthony Robins or Dave Ramsey to name a few.  I believe in living everyday like its your last.  I love to love my family & friends and make them smile and have more fun daily.  People may consider me a galvanizer. I grew up in Southern California at the beach.  From my childhood I remember carpooling to gymnastics every day, lots of outings with friends & family, traveling a bunch and my mom told me I would smile and say hi to everyone we passed.  I was a competitive gymnast for 13 years & throughout my childhood would attend motivational seminars with my Dad encountering lots of different people, places and experiences all over the world. This one time my family and I did a retreat in Club Med Eleuthera and they turned me into a human jump rope!  At age 15 Cirque Du Soleil offered me a position in Montreal,  I had to decide between being a “normal” kid or joining the circus, I decided to stay local transitioning from Gymnastics to Dance & Song Leading in high school.  We had so many fun slumber parties watching early 90’s movies, camping out on the trampoline and prank calling radio stations. Adam Sandler, Jim Carrey, Jenny McCarthy & Chris Farley were my idols.  I managed to remain on the President’s Honor Roll throughout High School & College even if I did not understand History I made sure to build relationships with all my teachers :).  Moving to the LBC for college at 17 and living on my own was like being delivered to another country!  I went crazy at the grocery store because my parents had me eat so healthy, like Lucky Charms & Krispy Kreme were my favorite.   Luckily I was on the competition dance team at CSULB! I received my Bachelor of Arts in Family & Consumer Sciences, however I decided I still wanted to learn more! The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising energy pulled me in!  I was in my element with like minded weird creative people.  What an irreplaceable education.  My professors all worked in the industry and still are vastly inspiring.  I studied Apparel Manufacturing Management and that is the reason I was able to start Ruff Ties, to this day I have support from my professors as business questions arise, it is an incredible resource for us.  I forgot to tell you that I danced for the NBA as a Los Angeles Clippers Pro Dancer!  Performing in the middle of the Staples Center is an adrenaline rush.  Through my education I worked side jobs such as coaching gymnastics, Brand Ambassador,  Golf Course Beverage Cart  & Restaurant jobs.  I believe restaurant jobs are good for everyone.  You learn customer service at its finest.  During my senior year of college I had an incredible opportunity to race around the world on CBS’s television show the Amazing Race!  We traveled through places like Africa, parts of Europe & Asia.  This experience changed my life forever. My partner Nate and I(college boyfriend) grew as humans and learned that the mind & body is capable of so much more than we think when put to the limit of not eating, sleeping, solving riddles & obstacles in foreign countries.  I came back renewed and restored with a new life philosophy.  However was not sure what I wanted to do.  I interned with TOMS Shoes in their first year of business! After that I still wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so I got a Substitute teaching credential and spent a year teaching and loving it, however I wanted to utilize my specialty degree so I went to work for amazing companies such as private wholesale manufacturer Independent Trading Co. & Oakley.  Then a fork came in the road right around my quarter life crisis as I call it,  I was offered a job in the Grocery business making double the Salary.  I chased the money and ended up leaving my passion for fashion behind. I  spent three years in a tiresome unhealthy industry learning a lot about Corporate Sales & Corruption.  I became a number and my creative side lay dormant.  However I learned a great deal of  business management, sales & analytics.  I felt in my heart that God was leading me down the career path to become an Entrepreneur and wanted me to get a taste of each field I needed to become a business owner.  In April of 2014 I had the opportunity to go to Haiti with Mariners church for a Faith/Business conference. I took a risk and left my job to pursue Ruff Ties and teaching again.  The last year has been one of the most colorful years of my life as I have experienced heartache, failure, reward, success, being broke however there has been one common theme freedom and happiness by making people smile everyday when they see a tie on a dog. I currently reside in Newport Beach, CA. Teach in the Fountain Valley & Huntington Beach School Districts and Ruff Ties Office is located inside Vestal Watch Group & Locale Magazines headquarters in Costa Mesa.   My life consists of Daily Prayer, Gratitude practices,  Live Music, Puppies, Parties & the Beach or being outdoors in the Sun.  I would not have gotten where I am today without the unconditional support of My Mom, the ambition from my Dad, the faith God gives me daily and my beautiful network of friendships.

BA: And how about a little about your pup(s)?

P: Meet Rusty! An impish rabble-rouser!
He is an 8 year old Yorkie Poodle & heralds from Newport Beach, CA. A bit self-inflicted in his mannerisms….his favorite activities include male modeling for Ruff Ties, dish tasting a.k.a “Begging”, French Kissing and chasing babes & birds at the beach. Rusty never leaves the house with out his latest Ruff Tie. He is bathed every 2 weeks, wears coconut oil, prefers mahi mahi, his “I Woke Up Like This” Ruff Tie and his leather bed lined with Fur. Rusty is the reason Ruff Ties came to life.

BA: We love the idea, so how did Ruff Ties come to be?

P: Inspired by the lil man Rusty.

Rusty, who may be recognized as the face of the Orange County based pet Fashion Company Ruff Ties was constantly getting confused for a girl. “I felt bad for the lil’ guy, people would always comment ‘She’s so cute’…and I wanted them to know he was a dude!” said Parker.  So I went shopping everywhere and I mean everywhere…Online, LA, NY Japan and could not find TIES FOR DOGS.  So I started creating Neck Ties so Rusty could look like the gentleman he is.  “Without making it 5 steps from the house on the yet so lively Newport Beach Peninsula, I was stopped several times and asked where they could purchase HIS Tie — mission accomplished!”

BA: Describe your vision for Ruff Ties.

P: Ruff Ties marks its territory in the world of Philanthropic Fashion for pets.   Our goal is to sell ties to help Save Animals.  When you purchase a Ruff Tie one of our signature “Adopt Me” Neck ties are donated to an animal in need. The line includes Neck & Bow Ties for Pets.  Ruff Ties partner’s with rescues to enhance their adoption events.  Our Ruff Squad sets up shop to draw people in, volunteers extra hands and style the puppies so they look extra cute and facilitate adoption.   Ruff Ties intention is to draw as much exposure from our network and find these puppies homes!  We LOVE spreading happiness, because people crack up when they see ties on dogs! Ruff Tie’s collection is available for dudes & dudettes of all sizes.

BA: When did your love for pups start? Any cute stories?

P: I didn’t grow up with close in age siblings so Puppies, Friends & Fashion were my life.  I could always get Dogs to make deep passionate eye contact with me

BA: How do you keep yourself motivated to work hard towards your dreams?

P: Watching Shark Tank, attending seminars and competition!!!!!

BA: What’s a memorable moment from your journey thus far?

P: Definitely the Fashion Show that Fox Sports San Diego, Barking Beast & 4 shelters and Ruff Ties put together in the Gas Lamp District to help raise awareness.  We had Human models walk 20 adoptable dogs down the Runway wearing Ruff Ties & 13 were adopted that night.  Or a tie between Daymond John putting Ruff Ties on his weiner dogs Blake & Spartan.

BA: Clipper girl to boss lady…How do you like that transition?

P: Seeing as though Clippers has you interview with NBA panel executives before you are chosen……and we were fortunate to attend regular Galas & fundraisers, I felt that this was a huge stepping stone from girl to Boss Lady.  Lots of public speaking & appearances involved with high profile people.

BA: What were your biggest hardships on your journey to where you are now?

 How did you overcome them?

P: Trying to please my amazing parents that were Ruff on me, “Go to college & get a high paying job!”  Working for large Corporations being recognized as a number, Top Seller however always in trouble for something I was wearing, being late or communicating wrong.  “That Quarter Life crisis got me like…!”  People Laughing & making fun of ties on animals, family was very hard on me when I left my “real job” with benefits and a salary!

I over came all of this through God and the Power of Now.

BA: Tell us more about Ruff Ties contribution efforts!

P: Ruff Ties Hosts Fashion Shows & our street team Visits Adoption events.  We are currently partnered with Barking Beast, RUFF Rescue, Love Bugs Rescue, Barks for Life, Paw Prints in the Sand, Barks of Love etc Rather than cutting a percentage we donate “Adopt Me” Neck ties and will physically volunteer to enhance adoption events by placing ties on the dogs and offering help.

BA: What does a day in the life of Jennifer Parker entail?

P: During the School year, I substitute Teach.  It is a passion of mine to influence younger generations about the power of now, how beautiful life is, how much more there is after school and how important it is to network and get good grades!!!  So I could teach anywhere from 1-5 days a week ending my day around 2:30pm where I get excited about what I am going to eat and read 10 pages. Next I pick up Rusty and head into my cute office in Costa Mesa inside Vestal & Locale Magazines Headquarters. There is a very eclectic hard working vibe in the office, when you walk in the music is jamming and there is young creative energy everywhere.  Then I get on the computer and catch up, I am always catching up because I’m not a fan of being inside on emails.  I like calling and meeting people in person to take care of business.  SO I am usually just in the office to set up the next meeting or event that I have coming up & organize inventory.  Then I go for a dip in the Ocean and either meet up with some friends for Happy Hour or go home and watch movies, I love movies. Especially 90’s movies.

BA: Favorite way to stay active with your dog(s)?

P: Traveling! Beach, Hiking & Buying Fabric

BA: Best tip for boosting self-confidence?

P: Pray. Let it Be.  Live in the Now. Friends & Puppies. Traveling!

BA: What is your favorite way to relax?

P: The beach or Movies or browsing Pinterest & Tumblr

BA: And how about your favorite way to pump yourself up?

P: Music.  I love Music.  I have loud music playing 90% of the time. Music is Life, that’s why our hearts have beats.

BA: If you could pick one song to describe yourself, what would it be?

P: Way too hard of a question…

The Beatles “Here comes the Sun”

BA: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

P: A “Tie” between Gandhi’s words “If you don’t ask, then you don’t get!” & Ekhart Tolles philosophy to live in the present moment because the past is gone & the future doesn’t exist yet, all we have is NOW!

BA: What does empowering women mean to you?

P: Empowering woman to me means believing in one another and recognizing progression.  This launches us to become the greatest we can be! I am not a big woman’s rights person,  I believe that all beings are created equally with a spirit that enables the divine.  Unfortunately the Ego which is false and man-made is what has tricked humans into believing misperception and false judgments.  Empowering woman in other countries now is very important because they have been suppressed with no opportunity for so long un like America, in fact I am on the Haiti Outreach leadership team at Mariners Church and we developed a business plan to open up a small sewing manufacturer in Carrefour, Haiti.  I am so eager to see what this will do for the woman in Haiti, Ruff Ties will be the first American project they will work on!    I am super stoked on the progression woman have made in this ego driven mans world though!

BA: If you could tell all women everywhere one thing, what would it be?

P: Live in the Now,.  I live my life by Don Miguel Ruiz’s 4 agreements. 1.  Be Impeccable with your word 2. Don’t take anything personally 3. Don’t Make assumptions 4. Always do your best!

You know those false feelings you receive when someones outfit is cuter, or when you think people are talking about you?  Yah thats all fake.  Its you and God babe and that’s rad!!

BA: What’s next for you and Ruff Ties?

P: Ruff Ties would like to make people smile everyday when they see Ties on Dogs and we will continue to facilitate as many adoptions as we can.  Our Goal is to expand distribution to Unleashed by PetCo, Pet Supply, Pussy & Pooch, Fred Segal & Kitson this year.

Jennifer Parker Ruff Ties

To the babes of Bowed Arrows, thank you for recognizing Ruff Ties and spotlighting me.  It means a lot and I am grateful for this experience and how it will shape your company, the lives of many woman and Ruff Ties!

Peace, Love & RUFF!

BAB: Jen Herter of Macronage

Babes, today we are introducing you to Jen Herter of Macoranage in San Diego. We have had the pleasure of knowing Jen since junior high school and have loved watching her journey from turning her passion into a business. Meet Jen!

BA: Where did you first get the inspiration to start your own business?

J: I’ve always loved business in general which is why I got my degree in Business Administration from Point Loma Nazarene University. However, I knew that in order to start my own business and have it be successful it would have to be something that I was truly passionate about. I’ve always loved cooking and good food, but it wasn’t until after college that I really focused in on pastry. I got inspired by the amazing restaurants in San Diego and watching way too much Food Network so finally I decided I wanted to start a bakery. In order to learn the technique and get the knowledge I would need to run a bakery, I attend The French Pastry School in Chicago. It was at pastry school when I decided to focus on french macarons.

BA: The macarons always look so delicious. Is that just your speciality or do you strictly stick to macarons?

J: Right now I only do macarons. Macarons are tricky to make so I like the challenge and niche market. Plus focusing on just macarons allows me to really play with flavor and designs. We offer macarons a la cart, macaron favors and macaron towers. I’ve always taken the approach that it’s better to do one thing exceptionally well than a bunch of things just average.

BA: What are some challenges you faced starting a company on your own?

J: It’s always a lot more work and a lot more money than you expect it to be. Sometimes the hardest part is figuring out how to get started. It truly has to be a labor of love.

BA: You are based in San Diego but do you have any plans of getting your delicious treats to other areas?

J: We currently serve the San Diego and Temecula area. At this time, there’s more than enough business for me in just these locations!

BA: Where should the fine people of San Diego go to grab some yummy macarons?

J: Because we completely customize the macarons for each order, we focus on weddings and events only. We have a minimum order of 50 macarons or more which includes free delivery within San Diego county. We typically set up a tasting with customers prior to their wedding or event where they can try 5 flavors. At the tasting we discuss more about their wedding/event and the specifics.

BA: Tell us about pastry school? That sounds fun…and dangerous.

J: It was fun and dangerous because you take home everything you make and let me just say, my diet was about 90% carbs and sugar during that time. So of course it was amazing and one of the best experiences of my life. It also didn’t hurt that it was in Chicago so I constantly had friends visit me.

BA: You recently got married. Is your husband your guinea pig for new recipes?

J: Most definitely, although he’s not the best judge because he says “everything you touch turns to gold”. So sweet, but so not true.

BA: Was starting your own company always a dream of yours?

J: YES!!!!

BA: What’s next for you and Macaronage?

J: I plan on continuing to grow my business in the weddings and events markets. I really enjoy working with brides and grooms and it’s such a huge industry.

BA: What are some tricks you use for balancing a busy life?

J: Hahaha I wish I knew. It helps that I really like being busy and I love being creative. Sometimes I do get overwhelmed but I’ve been getting better at saying “no” to things as of late.

BA: Any healthy tips for the rest of us sweets lovers?

J: Everything in moderation. I love sweets and eat dessert every day but I try to limit the portion size of my dessert. That means 1 or 2 macarons instead of 3 or 4. Also, exercise is just a good thing.

BA: What’s your favorite way to pump yourself or turn your mood around?

J: Working out always turns my frown upside down. Also, creative projects in general help me unwind most of the time.

BA: What about your favorite way to wind down?

J: My husband and I love TV. I know that’s not a great thing to admit to but we have a few shows we really enjoy watching together. (BA says this in moderation isn’t such a bad thing!)

BA: Best advice you were ever given?

J: I think my parents really did a good job encouraging me to take educated risks. Do your research and plan first but don’t be afraid to trust your gut. Failing is just a learning experience.

BA: Who is your biggest inspiration?

J: I don’t really have one person that inspires me except for Jesus. I think there are pieces of a lot of great people that inspire me in different ways. I want to take the best qualities from all the great people around me and become that person.

BA: If you could tell all women and girls everywhere one thing, what would it be?

J: You’ve got to be your own biggest fan. You are valuable and talented and full of potential so act like it.

BAB: Caitlin Calhoun of Salt & Cinnamon!

We love this girl! She is definitely one of the kindest girls we’ve ever met and she can make some meannnnn meals! We definitely enjoyed every second of this interview and cannot wait to collaborate together in the future! Hereeee weee gooo…!

BAGo ahead, introduce yourself and let us know a little more about you!

CaitlinHi there! My name is Caitlin, and I am a cooking enthusiast who loves traveling, my family & friends, art, strawberries, inking, and making people smile & laugh with good food. Oh, and Disney!

BANot only are you starting your own company, called Salt & Cinnamon, but you’re also a beautiful model! Anything else you do? How do you manage to juggle it all and still stay motivated?

CaitlinAw, thank you! I also do translational research. A shot of espresso, lots of  post-its, love and support, and giving myself time to recharge has helped me manage a crazy schedule. Motivation can be difficult at times, but when you believe in what you are doing, you jump back on track. I just try to change my perspective to where it will challenge me while being fun in some way or another. We only have one life, and it is too short not to do things that you love with the people you love.

Emily Daccarett

BAWe love your blog and the whole idea behind your company. What words best describe what Salt & Cinnamon is all about?

CaitlinThanks! Salt & Cinnamon is about inspiring people to get back in the kitchen and enjoying the flavors of each season. Whether you follow our blog or enjoy the food we make, we love how food brings people together and creates a sincere sense of communion and trust. We occasionally like to throw little seasonal pop-up dinner parties to welcome the new season, meet new friends, and give people a creative dining experience with lasting memories to follow.

BAWe’ve had the pleasure of enjoying some of the food you’ve made for different parties. What is one dish that every dinner party must have?

CaitlinI am very happy to hear you girls enjoyed it!

It changes depending on the party since we are inspired by the seasons, but I feel like a cheese board is always nice to have for your guests. It gives guests mingling time, while making last minute finishing touches to the rest of the food…and it’s cheese! Also, a bruschetta is good because there are so many variations and can easily be tailored to your party.

We seriously need this…NOW!

BAAny favorite dishes, desserts or appetizers you personally love to whip up?!

CaitlinI personally love experimenting with desserts in general – cookies during the holidays are always a favorite. Risotto has been one of my favorite things to whip up because I love Italian food and this is just the ultimate comfort dish, especially during fall and winter when all you want be is all warm and cuddly.

BAAny tips on how to throw an easy, yet killer, dinner party? We’re all about dinner parties!

CaitlinPlan and Prep, prep, prep as much as you can prior to the party with a menu you can handle! But have fun with it and remember that it’s about getting your favorite people together for a good time! Even if you aren’t finished with everything, I think it is awesome when your friends throw themselves into the kitchen with you, and you finish the food together. When I throw dinner parties/cook, I always think of it as my way of saying ‘thank you for being in my life”, and it motivates me to make it even better.

BAFor us, cooking and baking is so therapeutic and that’s one of the main reasons we love it. Where/how did your passion for food originate?

CaitlinCooking and baking is very therapeutic for me too.  My passion for food originated from my parents. Food brings a sense of togetherness. My mom and I always use to cook and bake together – especially during the holidays. She had a magical knack for making healthy dishes without jeopardizing taste, and every time we went to a party, everybody would hover over her food – it was always the first to go! She would always experiment with food too which was fun. My dad taught me that people eat with their eyes first – so he instilled the importance of presentation with food.

While traveling and exploring different cultures, I loved the sense of genuine communion it brought to people. Friends, even strangers, would generally wait for each other and talk for hours, laughing and having a good time being themselves. I wanted to bring that back to the events and food prepared, as well as create new dining experiences.

BAWhat has been the biggest challenge when it comes to starting your own business?

CaitlinThe biggest struggle has been the financial sacrifice, especially knowing that there are no guarantees…which makes it even harder, but also just as exciting to make it count.

BAWhat does a day in the life of Caitlin entail?

CailtinOh, goodness – Everyday is a little different for me. I usually work out early every other morning. The core of my day is working at the lab with different projects, and then I typically wind down at night with S&C work, or other personal endeavors. But when I get called for a shoot or have an event on the agenda for Salt & Cinnamon, I adjust my schedule accordingly where I can make sure to have time to accomplish the things I need done. Sometimes I will have really slow days, and sometimes insanely busy days! It’s all about taking a deep breath and being open and flexible to change.

How gorgeous is she?! Ahh!

BAWhat would you say is the best tip for boosting self-confidence?

CailtinKnow that there is only one beautiful YOU. That’s a pretty cool thing if you think about it!

BAWhat’s your favorite way to relax?

CaitlinIt is hard to get me to actually sit down, but drawing has been one of my favorite ways to relax along with just getting outside into nature and exploring new places, catching up with friends,  reading, video games or movies on lazier days…with a cup of tea, of course.

BAAnd how about your favorite way to pump yourself up?

CaitlinBeing active in some way, or listening to my favorite tunes as I embarrass myself pretending I can dance.  And apparently…grocery shopping.

BAIf you could pick one word to describe yourself, what would it be and why?

CaitlinEek…I don’t know. “Caitlin” because that’s me. :3

BAWhat are the best piece(s) 😉 of life advice you’ve received?

CailtinThe best advice I can give you is to never follow the recipe.” – Mom

“Show, not tell.” -Dad

“If somebody wants to do something, they are going to find a way, if they don’t want to do it, they are going to find an excuse.” -Andande (aka Swoozie)

Stay humble. Laugh often.

BAWhat does empowering women mean to you?

CaitlinIt means genuinely supporting and inspiring each other. We’re all in this together.

BAIf you could tell all women everywhere one thing, what would it be?

CaitlinYou are enough. Women AND Men – you are enough.

So, love yourself.

BAWhat’s next for you?

CaitlinI can’t tell you exactly where I am going to be long term, but Salt and Cinnamon is growing, I am growing, and I like where I am heading so far!  But on the short-term list, I’ll be running my first half-marathon for Disney’s Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend- something I thought I could never do. It has been one of the most mentally and physically challenging things I have done – but it is so worth it, especially when people have got your back! It’s my symbolic journey training as a Padawan and emerging a Jedi at the finish line!

Be sure to follow along on this babe’s journey!

The BABes of I’m With The Band

Ladies, we are so excited to introduce you to the BABes of I’m With The Band Headbands & Turbans! They have been so inspiring and encouraging to us and we hope they find the same with us and the babes of our wonderful community! Without further adieu, meet Kailee & Erin:

BA: Go ahead, introduce yourselves and let us know a little more about you!

IWTB: We are two childhood best friends who came together to create I’m With The Band, a line of headbands and turbans that takes inspiration from rock n’ roll music and original style icons and blends it with our love of health and wellness. We met at the ice-skating rink at age 8. I spotted Erin’s epic ice-skating outfit, told her how much I loved it and we’ve been practically inseparable ever since.

BA: We LOVE your story! Especially that you’re both best friends and have been for awhile. We’re best friends as well and there really is nothing better than doing what you love with your favorite partner in crime! Where did the idea of headbands and turbans arise?

IWTB: We’ve always shared a love for fashion, creating and expression and dreamt of building a lifestyle where we could do these things together on a daily basis as co creators of a brand.

It’s no secret we love the kings and queens of rock n’ roll, most of our bands are named after them. Some of our ultimate favorite life & style icons are Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marc Bolan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Joan Jett, Bianca Jagger, Brigitte Bardot and Jane Birkin and we were super inspired by the headwear they used to rock.

We’ve also been known to skip a hair wash or two and our bands are the perfect accessory to channel the vintage style we love and mask our dirty roots at the same time! We’re all about multi tasking when it comes to looking cute :)

Alden Steimle IWTB

BA: Describe your vision for your brand.

IWTB: We envision creating a lifestyle brand of accessories and apparel for a fun and fearless boho babe that has a serious case of wanderlust. Who’s all about spreading light and positivity that needs the perfect head to toe get up that is aligned with her beautiful life.

BA: What’s a memorable moment from your journey thus far?

IWTB: Seeing our turbans on Beyoncé was definitely a memorable moment.

BA: What were your biggest hardships on your journey to where you are now? How did you overcome them?

IWTB: One of our greatest difficulties has been setting up and streamlining production. In the beginning we tried many different people and shops and we had to be patient to try to find that perfect fit.

Check out Lauryn of The Skinny Confidential wearing hers!

BA: What does a day in the life of Kailee & Erin entail?

IWTB: Wake up, meditation, check emails, social media, prioritize today’s to-do list, ship orders, fabric shopping, some form of movement (yoga/hiking) and fueling our bodies with something vibrant (aka dinner date together).

BA: We know you love your yoga! Any advice for beginners looking to get into it?

IWTB: Find a style you love and an instructor who resonates with you and you’re golden!

BA: Best tip for boosting self-confidence?

IWTB: Realizing that you’re you and that’s special, no body else can replicate it and you’re doing the best you can. Sometimes even just being your own best friend and support system and looking within for guidance and confidence works wonders. We put our trust in the universe. It’s also great to have some sweet friends who can be your cheerleaders when you aren’t necessarily feeling you’re best.

Kailee IWTB

BA: What are your favorite ways to relax?

IWTB: We love listening to music, doing yoga, hiking, being in nature, beach walks, anything by the water, meditation, treating ourselves to dinner (and dessert) at one of our favorite restaurants and playing with puppies to name a few.

BA: How do you keep yourself and each other motivated to work hard towards your dreams? / And how about your favorite way to pump yourselves (and each other) up?

IWTB: We love to envision our dream life, talk about it, picture it, feel what it feels like, talk about the details, the things we’re going to do and the places we’re going to go and remind ourselves that we’re on the path to it. Good music is always necessary for a pump up!

BA: f you could each pick one song to describe yourselves, what would it be?

IWTB: Ahh man, this is such a hard question! Music is everything and there’s so many songs we absolutely love, it’s so hard to just pick one! I guess if we had to…

How gorgeous are they?! Ahh!

Kailee: T & A – Rolling Stones Erin: Too hard to answer!

BA: What about a song to describe each other?

IWTB: Another doozy! Star Man by David Bowie for Erin because it’s mystical and magical like her and Cosmic Dancer by T-Rex for Kailee because she’s cosmic goddess…duh!

BA: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve each received?

IWTB: I was really upset one day a few years back and a woman I was talking to just said this to me. I heard her and didn’t think much of it at the time. I had no idea I would never forget it, repeat it all the time and share it with so many others…

“The kinder you are to yourself, the kinder the world is to you.” 1. What does empowering women mean to you?

We love the thought of strong, empowered women wildly chasing their dreams. It’s so important to us to surround ourselves with women like that, and we always do all we can to support and empower one another. We’re definitely finding the truth in the saying “your vibe attracts your tribe”! Our rad girl club is rapidly growing and we couldn’t be more grateful.

BA: If you could tell all women everywhere one thing, what would it be?

IWTB: Love yourself!

BA: What’s next for you both and I’m With The Band?

IWTB: We’re working on a line of super cute and functional loungy, vacay wear to add to our selection to complement our headwear. We should have the first piece out any day now! And as always, continuing to build and strive towards our dreams is what’s on our agenda!

BAB: Taryn Rasgon of Vegetaryn

HARDT (116 of 608)

One thing we have started to notice about our Bowed Arrow Babes is how genuine, personable and sweet they all are. Maybe that is one of the big keys as to why they are so successful! Of course they are also driven and fearless!

Taryn is all of the above and such a big inspiration because she started her company with absolutely no experience and has taught herself along the way. It hasn’t even been a full year and she already has over 13k followers on Instagram!

Now, it’s time to meet her!

BA: Go ahead, introduce yourself and let us know a little more about you!

TMy name is Taryn Rasgon, and I am 25 years old. I grew up in Agoura Hills, CA and started my own company, Vegetaryn, in November of 2014.

BA: Tell us how Vegetaryn came to be.

TWhen I was in college my friends were all about being Entrepreneurs. Their work ethic and drive really rubbed off on me. I figured the best way to learn about business, was to go out and try to start one. Even though I have never taken a course in graphic design, SEO,  or marketing, I have figured out how to build a website, brand, and business – mostly, I can thank Google for the answers :)

{Shop her shirt HERE!}

BA: What’s a memorable moment from your journey?

TI’ll never forget the first time I got a sale, I honestly did not know if I was going to be able to sell a single shirt. It was the best feeling when I got the first notification that someone purchased a Vegetaryn shirt, I couldn’t believe it, it felt like my hard work became worth it!

BA: What does a day in the life of Taryn entail?

TA day in the life of Taryn entails waking up in the morning and starting the day off with either Tea or a Smoothie. Then I answer emails and check my social media. Usually, each day can vary but I often spend my day in coffee shops, my apartment, or vegan eateries working on updates, blog posts, events, shipping & packaging, and maintaining all things Vegetaryn. All while eating delicious plant-based food throughout the day!

BA: The items you sell are adorable! Where did you get your inspo for the fun, creative sayings?!

TIt’s funny because I have tons of sayings and lots of exciting plans for new designs in the future. I usually think of 3 or 4 of the sayings at once. It’s like I get a burst of inspiration and my brain is on fire (usually I am with a friend or two, when we are being clever). I keep a list of all the sayings I ever come up with. I ask my friends and family which ones they like and then start from there. All Vegetaryn shirts & items are meant to be fun and worn as easy conversation starters. What better way to meet a stranger than over a good laugh?!

BA: Any tips to supplement a healthy lifestyle for the other busy girls of the world?

TOther girls of the busy world keep up your good, hard, work. We need more of you. And if HEALTH isn’t one of your top priorities, take a step back and realize it is important, take care of it and nourish it.

BA: Best tip for boosting self-confidence?

TTell yourself how beautiful and awesome you are EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

BA: What is your favorite way to pump yourself up?

TNot really sure how to answer this one. I do not know if I have a certain way.

BA: If you could pick one song to describe yourself, what would it be?

TI am the worst with music. I don’t even know the name of the top song that’s always playing on the radio :/

BA: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received?

TOne of the best pieces of advice I have received is if you want something, create it.

HARDT (539 of 608)

{How freakin’ cute is she?!}

BA: What does empowering women mean to you?

TWorking with other women, to support, and give strength to each other.

Be the coffee.

Be the coffee? What does that even mean??

We stumbled upon this really great story and just had to share!

A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her – her husband had cheated on her and she was devastated. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed as soon as one problem was solved, a new one arose.

Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to boil. In the first she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil; without saying a word.

In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out and placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out and placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out and placed it in a bowl.

Turning to her granddaughter, she asked, ‘Tell me what you see.’

‘Carrots, eggs, and coffee,’ she replied.

Her grandmother brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. The grandmother then asked the granddaughter to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.

Finally, the grandmother asked the granddaughter to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked, ‘What does it mean, grandmother?’

Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity: boiling water. Each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard, and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior, but after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened. The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water.

“Which are you?” she asked her granddaughter. “When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity? Do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength?

Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter and tough with a stiff spirit and hardened heart?

Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain.. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hour is the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate yourself to another level?

How do you handle adversity? Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?

So much inspo and motivation to be a fighter and stay a fighter. Don’t let bad situations change you for the worse. Instead, hold your ground and see the perspective and recognize the learning experience in each situation. Stay positive and turn the situation around. Dominate the situation. Be the coffee.

BAB: Lauryn Evarts of The Skinny Confidential

Everyone needs to stop what they are doing and head to Amazon to purchase Lauryn Evart’s book, The Skinny Confidential.

Like, no joke. Her stuff is real and it’s good.

She has everyday tips for eating right, exercising, and just living that beautiful life you were all made to do!

She’s a total babe but she works her buns off.

Our favorite thing about her is that she is alllllll about moderation. She eats hot cheetos for gosh sake! And she tells it like it is. She has figured out some KILLER ways to live life in a healthy, fun way and she shares them with the world in her book.

Lauryn is the type of woman that encourages you to not be too hard on yourself and to not expect your life to change overnight. You will have days where you would rather go to happy hour than the gym, you will cheat a little too much, you will eat a few too many oreos when you are PMS-ing. Lauryn puts it best, “Life is too short to obsess over foods in a negative way.” Give yourself a break and make better decisions tomorrow.

Another thing we just love about her…she’s not one of those girls who hides anything from her readers. She gives away all her secrets because she wants to actually help people. Like, how often do you actually find that?!

Chantelly likes to think of her as her spirit animal and has probably read her book too many times to keep track of. She has some great strength training workouts in there that Chantelly loves to do outside in her backyard. In her bathing suit. With a hat, glasses and tons of SPF of course! But gotta get that tan onnn.

Her recipes are perfect for the everyday busy girl. They are super quick but also super healthy and good for you. One of our fave recipes from the “Skinny Recipes That Will Change Your Freaking Life” chapter is the Two-Ingredient Pancakes. Like, what?!! TWO INGREDIENTS?! Who doesn’t have time for that?! And they are totally, 100% guilt-free!

We cannot forget to mention her Kombucha Spritzer because let’s be honest, we loveeee our Champagne and to be able to drink it with some Kombucha makes it healthier, right?! Jenna says yes, very much YES. Also, Blood Orange skinny margs. Tequila was our first love, when we were 19 and thought dancing on bars and stealing cowboy hats from rodeo cowboys in Rosarito was actually a good idea. We still love tequila, just -in moderation- and without mechanical bulls anywhere near.

TSC - YouTube

Anyway, we could go on and on and on but we probably should let you all check it out for yourselves.

There is so much in there about beauty, fashion and how to keep it spicy with your loverboy! MeOWW.

(And stay tuned to see how you can win the TSC guide later this week!)

But first, meet the babe behind it all!

We had the opportunity to meet Lauryn earlier this Summer and ask her a few questions to show you guys exactly why she’s a total Bowed Arrow Babe. So, lady loves, meet Lauryn!

BA: We’ve been following your story for awhile now and are always SO blown away by everything you do. You kill it at everything business and life. Who has been your biggest inspiration throughout it all?

Lauryn: Thank you, thank you! My biggest inspiration comes from all different sorts of things/people. It’s kind of like a big puzzle with a ton of pieces. I admire my fiance’s business sense, my dad’s optimism, my grandma’s spirit, etc. My inspiration also comes from my readers, Pinterest, Instagram, other entrepreneurs, magazines, online articles, friends, etc.

BA: How do you keep yourself motivated to work hard towards your dreams?

Lauryn: I think of it as brushing my teeth. I just do it! It’s a lot of discipline but at the end of the day you’re working towards YOUR goals and not someone else’s, so it makes it easier to kick your ass into gear.

I also make sure I’m stocked on cold brew coffee, a clean work space, & daily inspirations. I have an awesome team of people helping me daily. Delegating is very important when building a company. I used to think I could do it all, AND I definitely CANNOT. Ha! Having good people around you makes all the difference.

BA: What has been your biggest struggle to get to where you are now? And how did you overcome it?

Lauryn: Probably having to accept I can’t control everything. That was a big lesson.

Also, juggling a balance between work and life has been extremely difficult. I’m a work in progress and constantly trying to not work 24 hours a day. Sometimes I over do it and need to take a break. It’s important to separate work and personal life. Not everything is an Instagram, ha!

BA: What does empowering women mean to you?

Lauryn: I have always been a fan of collaborating, not competing. There’s PLENTY of room at the top and everyone is different. Collaborating is so important and it’s fun! Sharing women’s tips and tricks from all over the world is what The Skinny Confidential is all about. I’m a big fan of building women up, not tearing them down.

BA: If you could tell all women everywhere one thing, what would it be?

Lauryn: Fake it until you make it!! We all have shitty days. We all have unfortunate circumstances. FAKE it. Make it work until it does. There’s a whole chapter in The Skinny Confidential book on this.

Also, finding your niche and sticking to it is super important. Start small, grow big.

BA: What’s next for you?

Lauryn: I am working on my website re-design with my blog design company, Blog-doo. It’s taken 7 months (I am a HUGE procrastinator) so I’m getting antsy! I want it to be super simple with a touch of flair.

I recently launched The Bombshell Body Guide, a 28 week fitness program & social network of women looking to kickstart a healthy lifestyle.

Also, I’m very much into YouTube right now, I’ll be posting a ton of videos so stay tuned!

Eventually I would love to move into products and another book.

“Be the best version of you. Even if you have to fake it for a while.”

-Lauryn Evarts, TSC

So that’s a little bit on Lauryn, one of our biggest inspirations! Be sure to follow her if you don’t already! She serves some great daily inspo and her blog posts will make you giggle a little.

And stay tuned for a fun giveaway coming to you all on Friday! ♥

BAB: Kelly Robyn of Miss With-It!

Okay, Babes! If you have not been following/shopping Miss With-It you are Miss-ing out! Tees, Pillows and sassy make-up pouches are just the beginning. The merch is awesome but the woman behind it all is absolutely fabulous! We are so excited to introduce you to Kelly, the founder of Miss With-It!

BA: How did you get into fashion?

KR: I have a background in fashion photography. After I returned from shooting fashion photography in Paris, I was eager to continue on a creative path to learn more about design. I think my skills and years of experience in fashion photography really helped sharpen my eye for design. While I was in design school, I continued directing, and shooting my own fashion editorial spreads for fun and for submissions. I also created my own fashion magazine project where I managed the roles as editor, photographer and layout designer. Later on that year, my magazine won the Gold Award for Graphis International New Talent Awards which was exciting! Then, after I graduated from design school I worked at a design studio in London, which is such a major fashion capital. London will always be my favorite fashion city! After working in London I went on to direct and photograph some fashion shoots in Berlin, which had a totally different fashion aesthetic than London. I think every city I’ve been to has inspired my style sense in different ways. I’m back in Los Angeles now, and I find this city to be just as inspiring as the others. LA has so many cool new and old things to discover, it’s really inspired my brand. To me, LA is like wearing an old dress that you’ve worn 100 times, but you just discovered this old dress has cool little pockets that you never knew were there before.

BA: What were you doing before you started your own company?

KR: After I graduated from Design school I ditched everything I owned (including my car), I left my family + friends behind in California in order to live out my dream of living + working in London. I had always wanted to live in London. It’s such a creative, fashion forward, BRILLIANT city, that it has always captivated me in ways nowhere else could. I wanted to feel a part of something bigger. I wanted to be in a place where I could be constantly inspired with every turn of my head. I absolutely LOVED London, and everyday was like living the dream. I was so inspired daily, just like I had always hoped. But, after some time, it didn’t work out in London for me because of complicated UK visa restrictions, so I came back to the States. I felt so lost + ashamed that my dream didn’t work out for the long term. I would constantly beat myself up, and I had many identity crisis freak outs. It was a huge process to rebuild & reinvent myself again. Then one day I realized, this IS my reality so I better learn to like it, or even love it.

BA: When did you get the idea for Miss With-It?

KR: I was sick in bed one day + I wanted to feel somewhat productive, so I just started coming up with funny sayings and designing them on pillows to entertain myself and give myself a little chuckle, haha. I shared them on social media for my friends to see, and everything really just picked up from there. From the positive response I received, I continued designing more, and through this Miss With-it was born. While I was in the midst of my depression, I focused all of my energy on starting up this new business. It brought me so much joy when my audience thought my designs were funny and shared them with their friends. I love making people laugh, and I absolutely love it when my customers tag me in a photo on social media of how they are enjoying their new goodies. Without them even realizing it, the support of my engaged customers all over the globe managed to pull me out of my daily pity parties haha. I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone for their support of Miss With-it.

BA: Have you always been into fashion and home decor or was it a twist of fate?

KR: Yes, very much so. I’m an inspired person. I am the product of my environment(s).

BA: Describe your vision for yourself and Miss With-It.

KR: Well, I’ve always been a multi-passionate, super-creative, with massive amounts of incurable ADD. There are so many things that make my heart sing! Design, photography, fashion, travel, color, beautiful typography, laughing… I’d love to just spend the rest of my life laughing haha. Being a lover of so many beauties, I can’t imagine giving any of them up to stick to just ONE thing, and be great at that ONE thing. You know what I mean? With Miss With-it my intention is to combine all of my loves into one vivacious environment in order to spread a little sass, humor + individuality. Miss With-it is about creating a community of With-it Babes that also have a love for multiple interests, the beautiful things in life, and also witty personalities to boot!

BA: So what’s next for you?

KR: Just recently Miss With-it got a completely new makeover! I had so much fun designing the new line, and I’m really excited to bring in the new pouches! These are great for make-up, change, credit cards, and cute emergency items like bobbi pins and additional flair. They’re cute & handy. What could be better? I like to surprise people and keep popping up with new items and designs. So stay tuned for what’s next!

BA: What’s a memorable moment from your journey to becoming a business owner?

KR: The moment a major idea strikes is the most electric and energizing feeling. I’m a passionate person that thrives on new ideas. I hope to continuously carry these electric moments with me throughout my journey.

BA: What were some of the biggest hardships on your journey to where you are now? How did you overcome them?

KR: Oh, definitely overcoming the blues I felt when I came back to the States. My dreams felt like they had shattered into a million pieces. It was a huge lesson in resilience for me. I learned to just get back up, dust myself off, and reinvent myself again. I learned that all of life is a process and to trust that all the dots will connect some day, but you can’t see the dots looking forward, you can only see the dots connect when looking back. Living abroad definitely happened for a reason; I’m a lot tougher than I ever used to be. I pay no mind to any pettiness. The biggest lesson to take away from any disadvantage in life is that failure is a much more faithful teacher than immediate success. Trust me on that.

BA: Best tips for boosting self-confidence?

1. Never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle. Comparison is the thief of joy.

2. Watch your thoughts carefully. Train your brain to be positive.

3. Surround yourself with loving, supportive people. Strive to enhance + inspire other people’s lives too.

BA: Any advice for young girls?

KR: Absolutely. Your choices matter; even the seemingly small ones. So, live consciously. Create a vision for your life. What you think about you bring about. Dream build. Read books. Find someone that has a life that you want and figure out how they got it. Pick your role models wisely; find out what they did and do it.

BA: How do you motivate yourself or pump yourself up when you are feeling a little “bleh”?

KR: I’ve always loved punk rock, it really gets me going! So, when I’m feeling “bleh” or low energy, I’ll throw on some Bad Brains, Cramps, The Saints or Dead Kennedys, and just go nuts. Haha, it’s an instant cool fix.

BA: What’s your favorite way to wind-down and relax?

KR: I’m a pretty relaxed and mellow person generally. But, I like to light my Voluspa candle in French Cade Lavender + drink some wine while watching New Girl (it’s the only show I watch). Oh, the simple things.

BA: If you could pick one song to describe yourself, what would it be?

KR: Nancy Sinatra “These boots are made for walkin’ “. My go-to song for Karaoke!

BA: Something you are totally obsessed with right now?

KR: I just moved to LA, so I’m obsessed with exploring new areas and finding new pockets that I never knew existed. I love taking walks around my neighborhood in West Hollywood, and people watching!

BA: Any health tips for busy women?

KR: Get at least 7 hours of sleep. Limit your sugar intake. Stay away from processed foods + fast food. Drink green tea everyday. Take probiotics for a healthy gut. Start your day with a protein packed smoothie, throw in a spoonful of coconut oil + apple cider vinegar for energy + to boost your metabolism. If you’re stressed, get outside and go for a walk, you’ll feel much better.

BA: What does empowering women mean to you?

KR: Instead of trying to compete with one another, I’d like to see us all succeed. It all starts with having a vision for your own life, and that can have an impact on the world.

BA: Best piece of advice you have ever received?

“Instead of striving for perfection, strive for excellence; it’s way more fun.” – Mama

“Always set your own standards, or someone else will, and they will set them low.” – Papa

TIPS: Cut calories in your 4th of July cocktails!

We LOVE holidays and the 4th of July is one of our favorites!

What better way to celebrate living in freedom than throwing an All-American Party?!

Independence Day is always full of BBQs, bike rides and usually…beer or some other form of calorie-laden cocktails.

We don’t want to stop the celebration, but we were searching for a way to not feel bloated and lethargic by days end, so we went to the cocktail drawing board for a couple of Red, White and Blue libations!

Watermelon-Lime Cooler:

1.5 ounces of the vodka of your choice

1/3 cup of fresh watermelon chunks

1 tbsp fresh lime juice

Shake with Ice

Top with Arrowhead Watermelon-Lime Sparkling Water

This cocktail is so refreshing and not too sweet!

5 ounces of bubbles (We LOVE Chandon..Rose would be great too!)

2 ounces of your fave berries

2 ounces of Suja Berry Madness

Stir and sip!

For those with a more sweet-tooth!

It’s not just the cocktails that can break the calorie bank…

Those hot dogs and burgers are about as American as it gets, but they can make you feel all sorts of sluggish.

Try turkey burgers or Applegate’s all-natural dogs! They have chicken, turkey, pork, beef or veggie and they are made without GMOs or artificial ingredients! Now that’s a BBQ we can feel good about!

Learn more about Applegate products here!

Have a safe and fun weekend, Babes!
